Park University Data Collection Sampling Plan Paper

Introduction

This part of your research project prepares you to collect data. Decide and describe what kind of research you want to do – the design of your study (probably a questionnaire). Determine an appropriate sampling plan, and plan of measurement and design a questionnaire.

Core Learning Outcomes

  • The student will select the research design and data sources, develop an appropriate sampling plan, create a precise statement of measurement issues and scales and design a questionnaire.
  • The student will select the research design and data sources, develop an appropriate sampling plan, create a precise statement of measurement issues and scales and design a questionnaire.

Directions

Determine the research design for your study. Determine where/how you will access/collect data. Develop a sampling plan. Create a statement measure – remember the higher the level of measurement you use the higher the level of statistical analysis you can do. Design the way you intend to collect data (probably a questionnaire.) Keep in mind the ways to avoid error in questionnaires and sampling.

Criteria Ratings Pts
This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeThe student will select the research design and data sources, develop an appropriate sampling plan, create a precise statement of measurement issues and scales and design a questionnaire.
65.0 to >58.5 ptsExceptional

Excellent research design and data sources are clearly appropriate to the defined question. Development of the sample design clearly identifies the sample parameters and method of selection are appropriate to the defined question. Very accomplished identification of measurement issues and how they will be addressed and skilled development of scales that will provide the data that are appropriate to the identified problem. Questionnaire design contains very clear directions and only questions that are appropriate to the identified question.

58.5 to >52.0 ptsAbove Expectations

Research design and data sources are appropriate to the defined question. Development of the sample design identifies the sample parameters and method of selection are primarily appropriate to the defined question. Accurately Identifies measurement issues and how they will be addressed and develops scales that will provide the data that are appropriate to the identified problem. Questionnaire design contains clear directions with questions that are primarily appropriate to the identified question.

52.0 to >45.5 ptsMeets Expectations

Research design and data sources are mostly appropriate to the defined question, with some inaccuracies. Development of the sample design identifies the sample parameters and method of selection are mostly appropriate to the defined question, with some errors. Identifies most measurement issues and how they will be addressed and develops scales that will provide the data that are mostly appropriate to the identified problem. Questionnaire design contains fairly clear directions and questions that are mostly appropriate to the identified question.

45.5 to >39.0 ptsDoes Not Adequately Meet Expectations

Research design and data sources are not the best fit for the defined question. Sample design parameters are unclear and/or the selection method is not optimal for the defined question. Measurement issues are inadequately addressed and/or scales provide data that will not adequately answer the question. Some lack of clarity in directions in the questionnaire design with some inappropriate questions.

39.0 to >0 ptsFails to Meet Expectations

Research design and data sources are poorly chosen for the defined question. Sample design parameters are and/or selection design are not appropriate to the question. Measurement issues are not addressed and scales do not provide the level of data necessary to address the question. Confusing directions in the questionnaire design and/or mostly inappropriate questions.
