This week we introduce the topic of “embodied cognition” or “grounding” in language comprehension. Harley (2017/2010) and our other readings describe this phenomenon in terms of healthy adults with all senses intact.
How might you expect meaning to be represented in people who either don’t have one of their senses (e.g., Deaf, Blind) or have lost one of their senses during their life? How may their representations of meaning be different? How may they be similar? Using an example may be beneficial.
