ART 2301 Clayton Christ in Limbo & Santa Trinita Maesta Paintings Essay

The Final Exam essay prompt is an opportunity to reflect on a theme across art from Ancient Egyptian to Renaissance art. Choose one of these themes:

-art and religion (symbolism, connection to religious buildings, religious uses of artworks)

-art and the body (typical ways bodies were represented, changing images of men and women, gods and mortals, meanings they conveyed)

-art and politics (power and legitimacy of rulers)

-art and war

Tip: review the class material to come up with ideas.

You’ll want to choose three artwork examples from three different styles (for example, an Egyptian, an Early Christian, a Renaissance). Discuss how your chosen artwork relates to the theme. Make sure to show what you know based on the class. Describe visual details that contribute to the meaning of the artwork and your theme. Imagine you’re explaining it to someone with no previous knowledge.

This essay should be 4-5 pages, double-spaced, with Times or Times New Roman font. Please cite any sources you use to complete your response. I need this by May 8th no later than 5 pm.
